Exodus Outreach is a nonprofit corporation I helped start in 2006 to serve the impoverished and homeless population living on the streets in Dallas, Texas. Our vision statement is to reach out in any way we can to provide care and assistance to the men, women and children trying to make it on the streets. Red Redding, played by Morgan Freeman, in the movie Shawshank Redemption, said, “These walls are kind of funny. First you hate ‘em, then you get used to ‘em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That’s institutionalized.” While our most important goal is to love people openly and unconditionally, the purpose of Exodus Outreach is to help facilitate a way out of the institutionalized cycle of poverty and homelessness that many people on the streets dream of leaving behind. We want to not only provide short-term assistance to our brothers and sisters living on the streets, but we also strive to understand the deeper problems behind these difficult issues in an effort to contribute to long-term sustainable solutions that will change people’s lives.
We are in the process of creating a new website. The purpose of this page is to keep our friends and family involved in what’s going on at Exodus. I am hoping to share stories, photos, and other resources. If you have a question about Exodus or would like to contribute, whether with your time or financially, send me an e-mail and let’s make it happen.
Hey man, this is awesome! Ever since I read Blue Like Jazz, the homeless have weighed heavy on my heart. I love that you’re wanting to go above and beyond and help them find a way out! I would love to come out and do any form of street ministry and help you in the best way that I can! Let me know when you get stuff up and running.
